Thomas received both his masters and bachelors degrees in Computer Science from the University of New Hampshire (UNH). Thomas' thesis developed a multi-scale parallel solution for volume rendering massive data sets on supercomputing resources. As a graduate student, his interest in parallel rendering was cultured at UNH, Lawrence Livermore, and Oak Ridge national laboratories.
Thomas Fogal works on novel parallel IO and rendering techniques. He concurrently maintains a position at the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah as well, where he works on visualization tools as part of the Center for Integrative Biomedical Computing. His interests lie in parallel and distributed computing, with an emphasis towards visualization. In particular, he enjoys finding methods which enable scientists to visualize and understand large scientific datasets.
